A step out of the box!

There’s nothing like waiting for your online order to arrive. The anticipation of the perfect answer to your needs (or wants), all neatly wrapped up. The doorbell rings, your heart flutters... finally! A thirst is quenched. In that moment, a brown, ordinary box holds so much value. We unwrap it with excitement and expectation, and just like that, the cardboard outer shell becomes somewhat futile.
It’s funny how we find ourselves valuing our worth by all the things we put into a box. Strongly upholding our careers, our relationships, the awards we achieve and the hats we wear. For most, these are unpacked and re-packed on a daily basis. We know which item to showcase when we need it.
I posed the question: What if we took a step outside of the box? How do we know our value without the adjectives that define us?
Having wrestled with self-worth, pretty much from infancy, my cardboard casing felt quite unstable and not very structurally sound. I battled my way through university, thinking that studying something noble would be a great item to add to my small collection of achievements, a hat I could wear to help me feel more valuable. Without knowing it, the very thing that I thought would make me feel valuable brought destruction. In a moment of desperation, I took a big step out of my box - I started my journey in WHATUSEE. It’s been uncomfortable, challenging, a little confusing, but mostly a huge lesson of grace.
So, I pose a suggestion: Take a step outside of your box - be consumed with something that is not on your priority list. Take a second to learn and gain perspective from a different view. Be humbled. This is not to say that your achievements are worthless, but once all is stripped away, when we are exposed and vulnerable, our value doesn’t lie inside the place we keep putting it.
I know that in failures I am worthy, I am valuable even without my achievements. Mostly, my value is in Jesus, the most Worthy of all died on a cross because He finds me so valuable.
Stepping outside of the box reminds us that our true value isn’t measured by what we accumulate or the labels we wear. It’s found in the moments of vulnerability, growth, and perspective. At WHATUSEE, we encourage our clients to embrace this mindset, to take bold steps beyond the familiar, and to explore creativity and purpose in unexpected ways. Just as we’ve learned to find worth beyond the cardboard casing of our lives, we invite you to step out of the box with us and discover the extraordinary possibilities that lie beyond the edges of expectation.
